Summary of the Lesson

This story is about a girl named Sunanda who lives near a forest. A terrible landslide makes her lose her parents and her eyesight. Her headmaster, Raogaru, and his wife, Mami, take care of her. Sunanda is sad at first but slowly learns to live in her dark world. She realizes that people are cutting down trees illegally, which causes landslides. Even though she can’t see, her other senses become very strong. One night, she goes into the forest and finds out that the police head constable, Mudaliar, is involved in stealing sandalwood trees. She tells Raogaru everything. Raogaru reports it to the police headquarters. Because of Sunanda’s bravery and help, the illegal tree-cutting group is caught. Sunanda gets a reward, and Raogaru admits her to a special school for the blind so she can learn a useful skill for her future.
