Savitribai Phule: The First Lady Teacher of India

Savitribai Phule is known as India’s first woman teacher and a true inspiration. She was born on January 3, 1831, in a small village called Naigaon in Maharashtra. In those days, girls were not allowed to go to school, but Savitribai wanted to change that.

With the help of her husband, Jyotirao Phule, she started the first school for girls in Pune in 1848. Many people opposed her work, but she was brave and determined. She believed that education is the key to a better future, especially for girls.

Savitribai also worked to stop bad practices like child marriages and helped widows by supporting their remarriage. She even opened homes for orphaned children and fought against social inequality.

Her hard work and dedication made her a symbol of women’s empowerment and social change. Today, we celebrate her birthday as Balika Din (Girl Child Day) to honor her contributions.

Let’s learn from Savitribai Phule and support education for all!
