A. Answer the following questions in a sentence or two each.

1. Why did the merchant go to the distant city ?

Ans: Merchant went to the distant city on business.

2. What did the third daughter ask for ?

Ans: the third daughter ask for a red rose.

3. Who welcomed him to the big house ?

Ans: A voice welcomed him to the big house but he did not find any one.

4. How did the rich man help himself in the big house ?

Ans: As he went in that big house,he saw a big table.Fruits and delicious meals were kept on the table.He was hungry. He ate the food and spent that night in the house.

5. On what condition did the beast let the merchant go?

Ans: The merchant have to bring the first thing which he will see on reaching home.On this  condition beast let the merchant go.

6. Why did Beauty agree to live with the beast ?

Ans: Because Beauty thought that the beast have showed kindness to her father. So the beast can’t be a terrible being.So for the sake of her father,she agreed to live with the beast.

7. How was Beauty looked after him in the big house ?

Ans: In the big house Beauty looked after him very well. The beast did everything to keep Beauty happy.




B. Answer the following questions in two or three sentences each.

1. Why was the beast sad one day?

Ans: One day Beauty asked permission to see her father.But the Beast thought that when she will go,he will become alone.So the beast was
sad on that day.

2. How did the beast turn into a prince ?

Ans: One day beast was sitting alone in the garden. He was sad. Tears were rolling down his cheeks.Beauty took pity on him and promised that she will never leave him alone.Then she put her arms round the beast and kissed him.This act of Beauty broke the spell and beast turned into a prince.

C. Read the statement and answer the questions that follow.

1. “You can go any day, you like.’

a) Who said this ?

Ans: The Beast said this.

b) Where did he want her to go ?

Ans: He wanted her to go to see her father.

c) Did he really want her to go ? Why ?

Ans: No, he didn’t want her to go because the Beast thought that when she will go,he will become alone..

2. “You have broken the spell.”

a) What was the spell ?

Ans: Only a kiss from a young girl would give him back his true shape was the spell.

b) Who has broken the spell ?

Ans: Beauty has broken the spell.

c) How was the spell broken ?

Ans: Beauty kissed Beast and the spell was broken.

III. LANGUAGE

A.  Read the following paragraphs and change the underlined words into past tense and rewrite it. Work in groups.

Some children are playing in a garden. They are playing with a ball. Sundar throws the ball, and it falls in a hole. Every one puts his hands to get the ball. No one can reach it. They are disappointed.

      A boy who is walking in the garden takes a bucket of water and pours it into the hole. The ball comes up and all the children feel happy. They jump with joy and thank the boy.

Ans: Some children were playing in a garden.They were playing with a ball. Sundar threw the ball,and it fell in hole. Every one put his hands to get the ball. No one could reach it.They were disappointed.

Ans: The boys don’t paid complete attention on shooting the eggs.So the boys could not shoot the eggs.

2. “Do you want to try?”

a) Who asked this ?

Ans: One of the boy asked this.

b) What did he want to try ?

Ans: He wanted to try to shoot the egg floating on water.

c) Was he successful ?

Ans: Yes, he was successful.

d) What was the reason for his success ?

Ans: He was paying complete attention on his aim. He was totally concentrated on the task. 3. Do you think we should practice what Vivekananda said? Why?

Ans: Yes,We should practice what Vivekananda said. If we can’t paid concentration on task which we are doing in present,we can’t be successful in it.For success,we have to pay  complete attention on the task.
