The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has announced plans to reintroduce the one-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs starting from the 2026-27 academic year. This decision marks a shift from the two-year duration established nearly a decade ago.
Key Highlights:
Eligibility for One-Year B.Ed.:
Students who have completed a four-year undergraduate or postgraduate degree will be eligible for the one-year B.Ed. program. Those with a three-year undergraduate degree will continue with the existing two-year B.Ed. program.
Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP):
Launched in the 2023-24 academic session across 57 institutions, the four-year ITEP (B.A. B.Ed., B.Sc. B.Ed., or B.Com. B.Ed.) is available to students after completing their 12th grade. From the 2025-26 session, ITEP will become a regular offering, with institutions required to obtain approval to offer this course. Additionally, specialized ITEP programs in Yoga, Physical Education, Sanskrit Education, and Art Education are set to commence.
